Self-shot Scalextric package on BBC News

I was the solo reporter and editor for this multi-platform slot car racing package. The piece went on national TV, dozens of local radio stations, the online news page as well as Radio Cornwall's social media and BBC Sounds Rail.

Package made national news across multiple days

The BBC News channel picked up my self-shot, edited and voiced TV piece! The producer got in contact with me after and say that my "story totally stood out and it was really lovely. Had no idea it was self-shot as well- bravo!" It went out many times across different days which was amazing!

TV piece broadcast on BBC Spotlight too

The BBC News channel did cut the package to fit timings, but the full piece was played on BBC Spotlight across the south west. I thoroughly enjoyed telling this story of community and mental health growth (especially how it helped Ian with his autism).

I also edited a digital video for the local radio social pages. It reached +11k views on Facebook!

This is the BBC Sounds Rail edit for Radio Cornwall. The intro was reedited to include a cue-in by me, as that suited the playback form more than the on-air version.

If you scroll to slide 4 on this Instagram post, you can see part of the list of local radio stations which picked my piece up from the Central News Service. Slide 5 shows the online news page, which you can find here, and Scalextric sharing the digital content too.

Boxing club helping local children

Another self-shot, edited and voiced package published on regional TV, local radio and social media.

BBC Spotlight

I am really happy with the shots I was able to gather on the Mojo filming kit at the gym. Especially as I did not have long to film their training session and there were lots of boxers that didn't have permission to be on camera.

I also edited this digital video together from my raw footage. I was happy with the structure and way I told the story of this community group, focusing on the young lives positively impacted by the sport. It reached +6k views on Facebook and helped promote the radio package below.

Here is the radio package I recorded alongside the TV and digital footage. I also put together a long form clip sequence for the evening sport show with indepth interviews from young boxers, coaches and parents.

Empty pubs and struggling hospiality

What started as a potential radio interview turned into a range of multi-platform packages all recorded by me.

The sequences and acts that I recorded were used as part of a wider package on struggling hospitality. It led as the top story on BBC Spotlight on multiple occasions. I solely shot and set up the acts for this entire section on the Mevagissey pub.

I was originally sent to this pub to do a radio interview but I realised that the story could go further and gathered additional voices, context and shots. I pitched, edited and post-produced this radio package and it became the talking point for the Breakfast show!

Not only did I shoot landscape shots for TV, I gathered lots of portrait shots on a Mojo kit with Bluetooth microphones for the acts. I utilised the Filmic Pro app to add some more complex shots (eg pull focuses) to make the Facebook video (click here!) more interesting to watch. I also scripted the entire video (as I do with all the social media content on this portfolio).

Busy time for rescuing seal pups

I was a self-shooting, solo reporter for radio, multiple digital platforms and TV

(and edited all the pieces below too).

I recorded and edited a couple of interviews which went out the day before the package. Four bulletin clips gathered from these acts ran throughout the morning too.

Utilising the multi-track edit on 'dira!StarTrack', I produced this piece from start to finish. I organised, planned and self-reported all the interviews, then edited it all together.

I also self-shot and solo reported a TV OOV/ACT that was scheduled to go on BBC Spotlight until the World Cup segments overran! However, this self-shot market OOV/ACT did make it on to TV...

The radio package was one of the top stories on the BBC News Index for Cornwall too!

In addition, I presented and self-shot this BBC Spotlight Instagram Reel. Watch the full thing here!

How the cost of living is impacting charities

I produced all of these pieces from start to finish within a tight deadline

These two interviews were originally played at different points in the show. I also clipped and cued four bulletin clips from this content.

Based on the brief of a long-form 'out and about' visit to a local charity with a variety of voices in. Multi-track edit on 'dira!StarTrack'.

What started as just a social video post gained a lot of traction once everyone saw the content I produced.

I produced two clip sequences and bulletin clips from the audio I collected on the day. The sequences were different lengths to so the shorter version (listen above) could preview the more detailed option later in the day.

Truro Primestock Show

Here is my solo, multimedia coverage of this famous cattle and sheep market

I did multiple 'as live' hits for Radio Cornwall covering the event. I sourced, prepped and interviewed multiple guests, including a discussion in the middle of the judging ring! I used an iPhone, an iRig microphone and the PNG audio recorder to collect these hits. When I do live hits (check some out here), I use the same setup with the Luci Live application.

I also organised and shot a TV OOV/ACT which was broadcast that evening on BBC Spotlight (News in the South West).

I used the station's Mojo kit for iPhone filming to capture all of it. I lined up the tripod and angle for a TV-style act, set up and tested the Bluetooth microphones and recorded using the PNG app so it was in the correct format for BBC Spotlight to put straight onto TV. For the OOVs, I used both the tripod and freehand depending on the immediacy and accessibility of the shot.
